🤤 MY UNCLE’S TRICK FOR THE MOST TENDER DINNER!

Only 4 main ingredients, tightly sealed in foil, and slowly cooked until the beef is wonderfully tender and flavorful. The foil helps retain moisture while the meat cooks, making this an easy comfort-food dinner with very little hands-on work. ❤️

🛒 INGREDIENTS

  • 2½–3 lb beef chuck roast
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth

Optional serving additions:

  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Fresh parsley
  • Black pepper

👩‍🍳 INSTRUCTIONS

1️⃣ Prepare the beef

Preheat your oven to 160°C / 325°F.

Pat the beef roast dry with paper towels.

Place two large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil in a baking dish, arranging them so they overlap and leave enough foil to completely enclose the roast.

2️⃣ Add the ingredients

Place the beef in the center of the foil.

Spread the cream of mushroom soup over the top.

Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over the roast.

Pour the beef broth around the meat.

3️⃣ Seal tightly

Bring the foil up around the roast and seal it tightly.

Try to leave enough room around the meat for steam to circulate while making sure the package is well sealed.

Place the foil packet inside the baking dish.

🔥 SLOW-BAKED METHOD

Place the covered dish in the preheated oven.

Bake for approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the size and shape of the roast, until the beef is very tender.

Use a food thermometer to check that the beef has reached a safe temperature, and continue cooking until it is tender enough to pull apart easily.

⚠️ CAREFUL WITH THE FOIL

When opening the packet, be careful because hot steam can escape suddenly.

Open the foil away from your face and hands.

🥕 OPTIONAL VEGETABLE METHOD

Want to make it a complete one-pan meal?

Add chunks of:

🥔 Potatoes
🥕 Carrots
🧅 Onion

around the roast before sealing the foil.

The vegetables will absorb some of the flavorful cooking juices as everything slowly cooks together.

🍽️ SERVING

Carefully remove the roast from the foil.

Let it rest for approximately 10–15 minutes before slicing or shredding.

Spoon some of the flavorful juices over the meat.

Serve with the cooked vegetables and your favorite side dish.

📜 A LITTLE HISTORY

Cooking meat slowly in a covered environment is an old culinary technique.

Before modern ovens and slow cookers, cooks often relied on covered pots and tightly sealed cooking vessels to retain moisture and gently cook tougher cuts of meat.

Modern foil cooking provides a convenient version of the same basic idea: keeping the food enclosed while it cooks.
